FIRST EXTRACTION OF THE TEST PANEL IN BIMEP (Biscay Marine Energy Platform) during fields testing of OCEANIC project.
After 3384 hours at open sea the first set of samples from the Armintza marine energy testing area has been extracted.
The international consortium of the OCEANIC project is working on the development of ecologically viable solutions for the protection against corrosion and fouling of tidal generators, better known as WECs (Wave Energy Converters).
On July 7, field trials were started on the Bimep platform. This test battery consists of two frames, each with eight samples, installed in two of the seven buoys that make up the Bimep platform. The second frame will remain in the sea until the spring of 2017.
The extracted panels will be analyzed by IK4-AZTERLAN and WAVEC, in order to study the effectiveness of the proposed solutions against fouling and corrosion in a space of four and a half months between summer and autumn.
The deployment of the testing plan has been possible thanks to the support of SPRI, EVE, SWEA, CDTI and FCT, through OCEANERA-NET (Ocean Energy European Research Network) under reference OCEANERA/0005/2014.oceaneranet.eu
