PARTNERS
The RISE institutes Innventia, SP, and Swedish ICT have merged in order to become a stronger research and innovation partner. Through our international collaboration programmes with academia, industry, and the public sector, we ensure the competitiveness of the Swedish business community on an international level and contribute to a sustainable society. Our 2,200 employees support and promote all manner of innovative processes, and our roughly 100 testbeds and demonstration facilities are instrumental in developing the future-proofing of products, technologies, and services. RISE Research Institutes of Sweden is fully owned by the Swedish state.
IK4-AZTERLAN has been supporting the marine industry in the Basque Region in the last decades as a part of their mission. Since IK4-AZTERLAN’s expertise is metallurgy, its activity related with ocean equipment has been related to metallic product and process development and, specifically, to corrosion assessment. The Corrosion Area of the research institute has been built as multidisciplinary workgroup of scientist from different Departments, whose background covers the mechanical behavior under corrosion, chemical processes in corroding metals and failure by corrosion analysis. The field of knowledge of IK4-Azterlan is focused in metallurgy and its Corrosion Department supports the technological needs of the surrounding industry. The expertise of the company is in continuous development according to the demands from its customers. Its experience in R&D Projects is perfectly framed in the Project Scheme and the testing know-how and the lab equipment are in accordance with the needs to the Consortium.
In relation to the scientific and technological activities, GAIKER-IK-4 has been deeply involved(>25 years) in R& D project dealing with the developments of new formulation of plastic materials and composites covering their whole cycle of manufacturing process for the development of industrial applications for different sectors such as transport, packaging, food, aeronautic etc. Precisely, during the last decade, a significant percentage of these activities have involved the use and modification of materials from renewable resources and the re-definition of processing steps, which have contributed to open new market applications, based on biobased polymers. This activity has also been extended to the development and implementation of new bio lubricants with increased performance.
Since 1975 REPOL is specialized in the fabrication and supplying of thermoplastic compounds, used as raw material to process technical plastics. The engineering thermoplastic compounds produced by REPOL are used by clients all over the world (Spain, Europe, Morocco, Australia, USA, etc.). They are also used in a great many different applications and sectors such as, automotive, transport, electric & electronics, construction, industrial, agriculture, packaging, leisure and sports,…. This wide experience enables us to adapt our competences to a wide range of requirements. Connected with antifouling anti corrosion materials we have limited amount of experience, for this reason we want to study and development new materials for this filed REPOL has concentrated efforts in R&D, representing half of the activity. Our technical team (approximately 15 % of the company) is composed of highly qualified scientists (chemical scientists and doctors in polymers science), specialized in polymer compounds process and characterization and the use of advanced research systems that allow us to constantly study and develop new polymer based products and composites. Therefore, REPOL constantly develops new projects focusing in constant portfolio expansion and innovation. On one hand, the development and homologation of new products with specific properties is our driving force, with the aim to offer at all times the most suitable and original materials for our clients. On the other hand, REPOL participates either in national and international research projects in partnering with other companies and universities, thus acquiring the knowledge to obtain thermoplastics with exclusive properties.
WavEC is a leading research center in offshore renewable energy, whose activity spans all areas in the development of offshore renewable energy projects, including offshore technology, numerical modeling, environmental impact assessment, economic studies, licensing and public awareness. WavEC is a non-profit private research center with 25 employees, including 8 holding a PhD, and has major Portuguese companies as associates. WavEC has participated in numerous projects with demonstration and monitoring of offshore renewable energy technologies since 2003, notably including the WavEC owned and run Pico Wave energy Plant. WavEC has participated in about 20 EC funded projects spanning all its core areas and has been rendering services for clients around the world in all the mentioned fields. WavEC has also been a fulcral partner on the assessment biofouling impacts of offshore wind and oceanic renewable energies through the participation in different FP7 funded projects.
CorPower Ocean AB is a Swedish SME bringing a new type of high efficiency Wave Energy Converters to market, offer a fivefold improvement in annual energy delivered per ton of device compared to current state-of-the-art wave power. The concept includes a unique mechanical design, inspired by the pumping principles of the human heart, including a new machine element – the Cascade gear box for reliable conversion of linear-to-rotating motion. Pneumatic pre-tensioning of the mooring system allows a lightweight system with high natural frequency of oscillation. The robust PTO is combined with advanced control technology that make the converter oscillate in resonance with incoming waves, resulting in high power output compared to the physical size and weight. Survivability in storms is achieved by unique de-tuning mechanism, making the devices more transparent to incoming energy. The combination of low investment costs, high capacity factor and an effective maintenance scheme offers LCOE competitive with offshore wind, and long term competitiveness with established energy sources. The technology is developed and verified in close collaboration with leading industrial and academic partners including Iberdrola Engineering, WavEC, KTH, NTNU and SP.
The coating material may consist of a single element but it is more often an alloy or composite with unique physical properties that are only achievable through the Thermal Spraying Process. Skandivavisk Ytförädling Thermal sprays exchanger plates for corrosion protection for Alfa Laval since 1999. These plates sitting on the heat exchangers used in the offshore industry.
At Corrosion Protection of heat exchanger plates we work according to Norsok-M 501 standard for different coating systems such as C12-167, T2066-500, C13-151-152 .
All thermal sprayer on Skandivavisk Ytförädling approved for spraying to Norsok-M 501 system and they hold European thermal spray operator (ETS) license to all spray methods, HVOF, Plasma, ARC, and Flame spraying. The license test for ETS approved renewed every three years.
Recubrimientos-Mikra is a SME whose main activity is coating metallic components. Despite their main work field being the painting technologies, they apply thermal spraying on demand. Recubrimientos-Mikra has identified the TSA as a key line to support the SMEs in their area of influence and has included this technology in their R&D program for the upcoming years. The main role of Mikra is developing and applying the right TSA for the application in quick and flexible way, due to their proximity to the rest of the Basque partners. Mikra doesn’t have any ongoing project in this field.
